ENGAGE
Engage with African Bitcoin initiatives – here are some examples
African Bitcoiners
African Bitcoiners is a Bitcoin community helping to onboard new African users and guide them safely on their Bitcoin journey from earning sats to self-custody. They try to pay their bills through sponsorships and by building out Bitcoin services which add value to our community members. Most notably, they offer a free Bitcoin for Beginners course and our services include African Free Routing, The Bitcoiner Test and Sats2Data.

Izindlovu Fund
Izindlovu Fund is dedicated to supporting local field projects in South Africa that focus on wildlife conservation and protection. They raise funds for field projects including the Black Mambas all-female anti-poaching unit, elephant conservation (“Izindlovu” means “elephants” in Zulu), rhino conservation, and environmental and wildlife education in rural schools. Their Bitcoin for Wildlife Conservation project focuses specifically on assisting conservation projects to embrace Bitcoin donations. You can donate Bitcoin to the Fund or to specific projects.

Space for Giants
Space for Giants helps protect Africa’s remaining natural ecosystems and the large wild animals they contain, while bringing major social and economic value to local communities and national governments. They bring the discipline of good management, conservation investment, and adaptive innovation to these spaces as a way of not only halting their degradation, but restoring and expanding landscapes through a combination of public and private management strategies. You can donate Bitcoin to the organization.

Satoshi's Safaris
Satoshi’s Safaris is an initiative with a mission to share with the conservation community how Bitcoin can bring economic freedom to wildlife landscapes. Their basic premise is that the anthropogenic threats to conservation are all explained by the consequences of using fiat. They believe that Bitcoin can drive wealth accumulation in the communities living at the conservation interface, lower their time preference, and cultivate an appreciation for nature. Satoshi’s Safaris runs its own projects, showcases local guides and tourism operators, and offers wildlife adventures where they demonstrate what is possible. Their website also provides a wealth of Bitcoin resources for those on the journey down the Bitcoin rabbit hole.

Bitcoin Ubuntu
Bitcoin Ubuntu is a South African volunteer organization offering Bitcoin education and onboarding resources. They provide free online education and merchant and charity onboarding, organize meetups, and host the X spaces The Orange Sun. They are inspired by the African philosophy of Ubuntu, translated as “I am because we are”, which asserts that it is community that gives human beings their humanity, and that a person is a person through other people.

Bitcoin Ekasi
Bitcoin Ekasi (Mossel Bay, South Africa) is inspired by Bitcoin Beach (El Zonte, El Salvador). Bitcoin Ekasi is an extension of The Surfer Kids Non-Profit that works to create youth-empowerment in an impoverished South African township. Similar to what Bitcoin Beach did in El Zonte, El Salvador, Bitcoin Ekasi aims to use a well-established community platform (The Surfer Kids NPO) to create a Bitcoin economy in the township already serviced by that non-profit organization.

Bitcoin Dada
Bitcoin Dada is a women centric entity that is working towards educating African women into Bitcoin. It was founded to try to resolve three issues in the ecosystem: 1) to reduce the knowledge barriers for everyday women to enter the Bitcoin world; 2) to make bitcoin relatable to the masses; 3) to narrow the gender divide in this space through education, community, and social network platforms. They hope to create a network to further grow their reach to women not easily accessible via normal platforms, in women-only education centers, rural communities, SMEs, university students, and those in low-income communities, across the African continent.

Bitcoin Babies
Bitcoin Babies seeks to address the critical issue of infant malnutrition in third-world countries. They are committed to revolutionizing the landscape by combining the power of Bitcoin with nurturing infants and empowering mothers with knowledge, resources, and financial wellness for a brighter future. Their primary objective is to empower mothers with important knowledge, transforming them into confident and self-sufficient caregivers. By combining essential information on infant nutrition and Bitcoin, they aim to create well-rounded and informed mothers capable of nurturing their children’s health and financial future.
